Banana Bread Tart - The Complete Recipe

I've been posting parts of this recipe for a while now, so here is the complete recipe, featuring links to previous blog posts where you can find all the past recipes! This tart really did taste like banana bread - and boy was it delicious. It was quickly devoured by my mother and I....give it a try!!

Serves 8 (can serve more if necessary!)
1. The  Foundation: Pie Crust
2. The Sauce: Foster's Sauce
3. The Topping: Crumblies

Additionally, you will need:
3 ripe bananas, sliced 1/2'' thick
1/4 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 c. chopped hazelnuts

Assembly
1. Press pie crust into a large tart or pie pan. Trim excess dough off edges and shape crust.
2. Place all bananas in a single layer on top of the pie crust.
3. Sprinkle chocolate chips and hazelnuts over bananas and drizzle with the foster's sauce.
4. Cover the top with the crumblies.

5. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 10 minutes, then reduce to 350 degrees and bake for approximately 30-40 minutes, until edges are golden brown.

Eat it up and enjoy this deliciousness!

Banana Bread Tart - Crumblies.

Look at all those crumblies on top...

Okay, here is part 3 of that Banana Bread Tart recipe! These crumbles are really tasty. I made them using oil, because I was out of Earth Balance, but please feel free to substitute 1/4 - 1/2 c. Earth Balance instead! I think the crumbs would be much richer that way.

Crumble Topping
1/4 c. oil (or Earth Balance)
1/2 t. cinnamon
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. Sucanat (or brown sugar)
1 t. vanilla

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients until lumps just hold together.

Banana Bread Tart - Foster Sauce

It's time for part 2 of 4! This sauce is SO delicious - it tastes just like you're eating banana's foster! The brown sugar and cinnamon and vanilla really just make an awesome combination together. Go ahead, lick the spoon after you stir it. You know you want to!

Ingredients
1/2 c. Sucanat or brown sugar
1/4 c. Earth Balance
1/4 c. apple juice
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. vanilla
1 T. flour + 3 T. water

Directions
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt Earth Balance, Sucanat, and apple juice.
While that mixture is melting, combine flour and water in a small bowl until the flour is dissolved into the water and no clumps of flour are left in the bowl.
Once the butter mixture has melted, add cinnamon and vanilla and stir.
Add flour mixture and stir until combined.
Allow mixture to come to a slight boil , just until the mixture thickens.
Remove pan from heat and allow sauce to cool.

Banana Bread Tart - Pie Crust

After hearing that I was chosen to win a year's supply of Earth Balance products, I was ecstatic! I needed a picture of myself holding something I'd created... so I grabbed my Earthy B and came up with this! Filled with fresh, sliced ripened bananas, cinnamon, chocolate chips, hazelnuts, and a foster sauce, it's just too good to be true.

Since the recipe is a bit lengthy, I've decided to post it in parts. So, here is part one: the crust!

Pie Dough Crust
2 c + 3T. flour
1/2 c. Earthy B, in small pieces
2 T. evaporated cane juice
1/2 c. milk substitute

In a large bowl, mix flour and sugar.
Cut the Earthy B into the dough, using two knives or a dough cutter.
The mixture should look crumbly and the butter should be in little pea size balls.
Add is milk and combine using your hands until dough just holds together.
Dump crust onto a flat surface sprinkled with flour and knead dough for about 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and the gluten has been developed.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough into a circle about a 1/4'' thick.
Place circle into a prepared pie dish, and trim excess dough from the edges with a knife or kitchen scissors, leaving about 1'' hanging.
Roll the trimmed dough up around the edges of the pie pan, creating a crust for your pie!
You will have extra dough you don't need, so freeze it and save it for later!

Much love,
