Product Review: Way Better Snacks

Who doesn't enjoy snacking on chips and salsa?

Chips & salsa reminds me of a dance party I recently went to at my friend's house. I went early to help him set up, and one of the snacks were was chips & salsa. I was charged with the task of keeping his dogs away from all the food. I'm not sure why this stuck out to me - possibly because I don't eat much of either item. Regardless, there is something about the snack that is comforting and makes me want Mexican food.

I recently stumbled upon a great new snack: sprouted chips. I'll admit I was a little nervous at first, because the word "sprouted" makes me think of raw foods, of which I'm not the biggest fan. Don't get me wrong, I love me some baby carrots with ranch or cauliflower florets with hummus, but sprouts are not my thing.

When asked to try Way Better Snacks new line of sprouted chips, I was excited but unsure. When they arrived on my doorstep, I changed my mind: I was ready to dive into the six huge bags of crunchy goodness!

There are six flavors: Simply Sweet Potato, Simply Sunny Multi-Grain, Simply Unbeatable Blues (blue corn with salt), Simply Beyond Black Bean, No Salt Naked Blues (blue corn), and Simply So Sweet Chili.

Right away, I knew my favorite would be the Simply So Sweet Chili.

Sweet, spicy and a bundle of crunchy goodness, these chips are yummy. I love the unexpected spice that sneaks up on you.

The favorite among my roommates was the Simply Sweet Potato.

These had just a hint of sweet potato flavor and wasn't too overwhelming.

Way Better Snacks are Certified Gluten Free, Non-GMO, Certified 100% Whole Grain, Kosher, Vegan, an excellent Source of Whole Grains, Low Sodium, and a Good Source of Fiber. Also, they contain no trans fats, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

They are the first of its kind to use sprouted ingredients like flaxseed, chia seeds, quinoa, black beans, broccoli seeds and daikon radish seed. Weird, right? But yummy!

There wasn't a flavor that my roommates and I simply didn't like. I think the least favorite were the Simply Beyond Black Bean because they tasted... well... like black beans, and that was unusual. But they were still good!

So, the next time you want nachos, give these chips a try. Yum.

Homemade Cinnamon Apple Chips

Whew! Hey everyone! Long time no talk, right?

This past week has been a whirlwind. Tons of packing, moving back to campus, unpacking, working on the newspaper, writing papers for internship class credit, gathering things to send to my foodie pen pal - crazy! That being said, I haven't had a lot of free time to blog or do anything on the side. But here I am, and hopefully I'll be able to keep up with blogging once again!

I moved back to the on campus apartments at Xavier, the Commons, for my senior year. Its nice having a whole room to myself this time, instead of being in a double. I tend to over pack (always), so I have a crap ton of clothes and shoes here that don't fit in my dresser. Luckily I has a HUGE closet to store them in!

First things first - the three winners of the Hot Pants giveaway and the winner of the Shabby Apple giftcard - chosen by random.org!

Today we are talking apple chips. Yummy, homemade apple chips. They are delicious and have no added sugar - even better! Here's how to make them!

You'll need:
Apples
Cinnamon

How Do I Make Them?
1. Take apples and thinly slice them, either on a mandolin or by hard with a sharp knife. The thinner you slice your apples, the quicker they will cook. Don't worry about coring them - the seeds will fall out as the apples cook!
2. Place apples on a parchment line cookie sheet and sprinkle with desired amount of cinnamon.
3. Place a 200 degree oven and bake for 2-3 hours, until the apples are wrinkly. They may feel soft when touched, but they will become crispy as they cool.
4. Remove from oven and eat! Yummy!

I'm addicted to these things. Seriously. They are so good and make for the perfect snack while studying or reading.

Talk to you guys soon!

Much love,

Product Review: Rhythm Superfoods

All opinions are strictly my own, and I received no monetary compensation for writing this review.

Over Christmas break, I received a package from Rhythm Superfoods to review. I was really excited about this, because I love the company's philosophy! Take a look:

We create delicious, clean, nutritionally powerful products which help people to achieve optimal energy. The foods we make are RAW, VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE, NUTRIENT-RICH, and always DELICIOUS.

I'm specifically excited about their kale chips, which come in the following flavors: Zesty Nacho, Kool Ranch, Bombay Curry, Mango Habanero, and Texas BBQ. Of those flavors, I received the Zesty Nacho, and Mango Habanero to try.
Ingredients: organic kale, organic mango, organic carrot, organic cashew, organic onion, organic apple cider vinegar, organic ginger, organic lime juice concentrate, organic spices, sea salt, organic mango concentrate.
Ingredients: organic kale, organic cashew, organic red bell pepper, organic zucchini, organic carrot, organic onion, organic yeast powder, organic garlic, organic apple cider vinegar, organic lemon juice concentrate, organic spices, sea salt.

Overall, I was really impressed with these kale chips. I have also tried the Kaia brand kale chips, and I find these to be much, much better! All of the chips tasted tasted exactly like the titles. The Mango Habanero was sweet with a little bit of a kick and the Zesty Nacho tasted similar to cheesy nachos! All the chips were crunchy, too. Very good. I highly recommend trying these kale chips!

Rhythm also sent me both of their new Sweet Potato chips to try. Of course, these chips were raw as well! They sent me one of each of their flavors: Sea Salt and Hickory BBQ.
Ingredients: organic sweet potato, organic apple cider vinegar, organic spices, organic raw cane sugar, sea salt, natural liquid smoke concentrate.
Ingredients: organic sweet potato, organic raw cane sugar, organic spices, sea salt.

These were delicious as well! They were crispy and had a strong, authentic sweet potato flavor. I love that they are raw and are able to get that crispiness without deep frying in all that fatty oil! Again, both tasted exactly like their titles.

Overall, Rhythm Superfoods has impressed me with their snacks. I really want to try the Kool Ranch flavor, mostly because I love ranch, and I think ranch kale chips would be delicious!
