Memories & Comfort Food

Some nights, I absolutely love simply reflecting on the craziness of life. Where we came from, and the journey we took to get to where we are now.

Thursday was one of those nights. Apologies, by the way, for being so absent in the blogging world. I just recently left my nanny job, have been training for my new job (officially start DAY ONE on Monday!), and have been going through a whole bunch of other life changes - both beginnings and ends. So keeping up with the blog has been challenging. But know that from now on, whatever I post will typically be a high quality post. Lower quantity = higher quality, right?! :)

Also, one of the purposes of this blog was to connect memories to food (read the "about me" page if you haven't already to learn more!). So I'm going to work on doing that more often as well!

Anyways, back to Thursday. Do you ever get one of those feelings where all you wanna do is sit down and think about the past? I had that feeling - and it's a good feeling! I went to a house that I consider my second home, where four of my closest friends live. I would say from last fall up until a few months ago, I would be at their house nearly every day. There is a group of 7-8 friends who became extremely close over the past year and this house became the go-to whenever we wanted a place to hang out.

Thursday was my first time back in that house (with about half of the group there) in a long time, and it's funny how it still feels so much like a second home to me. I'm comfortable there and I always feel happy and at peace when I leave. I would go pretty much anywhere as long as that group of 8 people would go with me.

When I left, I started thinking about all the changes we've been through since we've become close friends. Nearly half of the people in the group, originally all single, now have significant others. I'm planning on becoming roommates with 1-2 of them sometime in the winter. Huge job transitions. Heartbreak. Difficult conversations. Some have stepped up into leadership roles, and others have left leadership roles.

It's always crazy to me to look back at who I was and who I am now. I am completely changed from the woman I was last year (a good thing), and I'm radically different from the woman I was two years ago (a really good thing!). Sometimes thinking back makes me sad and frustrated, but then I remember everything I overcame and how much stronger I am and I immediately feel better. Comforted. Happy.

Just like how I feel when I eat a big 'ole bowl of ice cream. :) And speaking of ice cream...

Peanut Butter & Co. recently partnered with Turkey Hill to make a limited edition ice cream - banana with peanut butter. Delicious banana ice cream swirled with large strips of peanut butter. And, as a member of PB&Co.'s Yum Squad, I was sent a coupon for a free container of ice cream. Talk about YUM.

I mean, do you SEE all the peanut butter in there?! The peanut butter is crunchy, just like chocolate chips. SO GOOD. Amazing.

I'll tell you an example of just how good this ice cream is.

My mom came home one day after I got the ice cream, and she was asking me all about it. Then she wanted to have her own, so went out and bought TWO half gallons of the stuff. I think I ate a mug of this cream nearly every day until it was all gone. I HIGHLY recommend running to your local grocery store & getting some!

And, before I forget - it's only available through September, and you can only buy it in stores EAST of Mississippi.

But it's amazing. So stock up!

Sometime in the next week or two I will post again, with more fun surprises from Peanut Butter & Co. (I'll give you a hint...it involves gourmet pb&j!). Talk to you soon!

Post-Workout Hydration & Cocozia Coconut Water

DON'T FORGET to ENTER TO WIN a COOKBOOK from Peanut Butter & Co. HERE and free product coupons from HAIL MERRY HERE!

Welcome to FITNESS FRIDAY! Today we are going to talk about a drink that is great for post-workout hydration, and WAY better for you than any sports drink... coconut water!

Coconut water has always been considered a rather "hippie" thing to drink, but recently it has been adopted by fitness gurus and athletes and the best drink for natural muscle repair after a workout. An 8 ounce serving of coconut water has 470mg of potassium (for comparison, a banana has 422mg of potassium) and 15 times more potassium than your typical sports drink. All of this potassium helps to maintain fluid balance in your body and ease possible muscle pain post-workout.

Click HERE for more facts about coconut water.

Another great thing is that coconut water is low in calories, which makes it great for mixing in fruit juices if you don't like the flavor of coconut water on its own. I don't love the flavor by itself, so I mix mine into other juices.

Another great way to use coconut water is to make coconut water ice cubes! There are perfect for adding an extra health blast to orange juice, or for blending in a smoothie or shake. Or, why not make a healthy pina colada using coconut water?!

I was recently contacted by Cocozia and asked to review their coconut water. Cocozia is 100% organic and all natural.

I was sent one case (25 bottles) of the original Cocozia. As you can see from the picture above, they have a variety of other flavors as well - I'm interested to try the coffee & chocolate  varieties!

As mentioned before, I don't love coconut water. However, this was one of the best coconut waters I have tried yet. It tastes like it came straight from a fresh coconut and provides an authentic coconut flavor. I mixed mine in orange juice - it was like taking a post-workout recovery trip to the islands!

If you love coconut water, I would recommend trying this next time you grab a glass. To find out where you can buy some Cocozia in your area, check out the Cocozia website.

Hey friends! Today we have something extra special for you!

I was recently contacted by Adam from Peanut Butter & Co. about joining their Yum Squad. Um, absolutely, I want to join the Yum Squad! I have been fans of PB & Co. for a LONG time, and they make my all time favorite peanut butter - White Chocolate Wonderful! It tastes like a spoonful of heaven (or nutter butters).

As a part of the Yum Squad, I was sent a copy of their new cookbook, 31 Days of Dark Chocolate Dreams, and a 28oz jar of Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter to test recipes from the book. Pretty sweet (literally).
I got cooking right away, and made three recipes from the book. I made the pear tart, cake pops, and trail mix bars. I apologize in advance - I was a little pressed for time when I took the pictures!

Cake pops
Pear Tart
Trail Mix Bars - with extra PB drizzled on top!
All of the recipes were successful and very delicious! I have been eating a lot of the trail mix bars for breakfast recently, and the pear tart resembled a fudgy brownie with a crust.

One lucky person has the chance to win a copy of the cookbook AND a 28 oz. jar of Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter - just like the package I received!  Here's how to win. Each entry is a SEPARATE entry, so leave a SEPARATE comment below for each entry!

WhirlyBird Granola GIVEAWAY

It's TIME for our first giveaway in December...and the first giveaway for our birthday bash! Hooray! Get ready to eat your heart out in GRANOLA...and even better, it's local (from Cincinnati)!

WhirlyBird Granola. I can't get over how cute their marketing is. Just go look at their website and you will see what I mean: burlap flag banners and birds that whirl. And it must be delicious, because Drew Lachey (brother of Nick Lachey and a Cincinnati native) eats it for breakfast.

I met up with Christy, the owner, at a Starbucks in Cincy to snag a few bags of Whirlybird and give it a whirl (pun intended!). She was really sweet and excited to be working with PD! Plus, she has three ADORABLE little kiddos, and you all know how much I love kids (in fact, as I'm writing this, I'm nannying a 12 week old infant! SO CUTE.).

They currently have four flavors: Original, Vanilla Berry, Chocolate, and the seasonal Gingerbread. As far as my favorite flavor goes, I'm having a REALLY hard time choosing between Gingerbread and Chocolate.

WhirlyBird uses all natural ingredients and makes every bag in small batches. It is free from artificial flavors and preservatives, so that's a plus. It's also vegan friendly and incredibly delicious! Their website offers a lot of great, unique ways to eat granola besides just tossing it with milk or grabbing it by the handful (although that's not bad, either!).

Is your mouth watering yet?

I thought so.

Here is what you need to do to win FOUR BAGS (one of each flavor) of WhirlyBird Granola.

Each thing you do is an entry. Please leave a SEPARATE COMMENT in the comment section for each thing you do or your entries won't be counted!

1. Follow Passing Daisies on Twitter and tweet "I just entered to win FOUR BAGS of @WhirlyGranola from @passingdaisies! Head to the blog and ENTER TO WIN now! #birthdaybash #giveaway"

2. Instagram a picture of this post (or a picture on it) and say "I just entered to win FOUR BAGS of Whirlybird Granola from @passingdaisies13! Head to the blog and ENTER TO WIN now! #birthdaybash #giveaway"

3. Pin this post on Pinterest and say "I just entered to win FOUR BAGS of Whirlybird Granola from @passingdaisies! Head to the blog and ENTER TO WIN now! #birthdaybash #giveaway"

5. Follow PD on Google (right hand column, where it says "Followers" AND//OR subscribe to PD via email.

That's all she wrote, folks! Now get entering! Only people living in the United States can enter to win. Giveaway ends on FRIDAY DECEMBER 13TH at 11:59PM. Winner will be contacted by email.

Product Review: Apple TV

Let's be honest. Some products just completely blow your mind.

That's what the Apple TV has done for me. To be totally honest, until I was contacted by Staples.com about hosting a review, I didn't even know what an Apple TV was. Then I did some research and tried it out for myself...and I am in LOVE!

Essentially, the Apple TV allows you to connect to your iTunes account or any other of your favorite apps (Netflix, Hulu, photos from your phone, podcasts, Vimeo, & the Wall Street Journal are just a few) and watch movies, videos, and stream music in high definition on your TV.

Pretty sweet.

With the help of AirPlay, you can play any content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch on your TV as well. You are able to use mirroring and dual screen with AirPlay as well, although I could not for the life of me figure out how to get AirPlay to work on my iPhone. I swear I did everything it told me to do...

I think one of my favorite features of the Apple TV is being able to watch podcasts on my TV. I'm currently leading a Bible study on Esther through Mark Driscoll's podcasts, and it's pretty awesome to be able to watch them on my TV instead of on my tiny iPhone screen.

I also love that you can get on pretty much any app - even random Japanese apps no one has heard of, and lesser known video sites like Vimeo - and watch it on your TV. I watched an episode of The Walking Dead on Netflix, and then an episode of New Girl on Hulu Plus. And I've streamed my music from iTunes (I'm listening to music on my Apple TV as I write this review, actually!).

You can also create a slideshow of pictures from your iPhone or Apple device or iTunes to use when the TV goes to sleep. Pretty cool to look up at my TV and see all my pictures from my recent trip to New Orleans showing up on my screen!

The TV itself is small and black, which makes it easy to hide and easily blends in with pretty much any decor.

It also comes with a cool little remote to control your TV from wherever you are. The remote also works with your MacBook, I discovered (accidentally). You can control your computer's volume and iTunes with the remote as well! You can also download the app "Remote" on your iPhone and use your phone as a remote for the TV as well!

Honestly, this is one of my new favorite gadgets that I own.

Staples.com was also really speedy with their shipping. The TV arrived within the same week I found out I would be reviewing the TV, and it arrived in good condition. Seems to me Staples.com is pretty reliable with fast and safe shipping of their products!

Overall, I'd highly recommend the Apple TV. It's a cool product to have around the house!

Staples.com provided me with a free Apple TV for review. The thoughts and opinions expressed are strictly my own. Feel free to shop their entire line of apple accessories online.

Minted.com: Paper Goods for All!

I'm sure everyone (women, at least) loves Etsy, right?

I mean, it's all homemade stuff, made by people like myself. In fact, Etsy and Pinterest both recently inspired me to redecorate my room by making homemade decor. So now I'm turning my room into a vintage inspired, homemade decor wonderland.

Anyways, have you heard of Minted.com? It's a lot like Etsy, except it's focused on paper goods like stationary, invitations, greeting cards, & banners. It's all indie inspired (right up my ally) and high quality. Their about me page says their "purpose in life is to uncover exceptional design from all over the world and bring this to savvy consumers who won't accept anything else." They also host monthly design challenges for stationery, invitations, calendars, and other categories in which any designer can enter and win cash prizes and a place in the Minted store (plus commission on their artwork). In fact, you can vote for your favorite entries by clicking here.

You can read more about Minted here.

I had heard of Minted.com before I was contacted by the company about this review, so I knew it was a good store that fit my style. They have this really cool part of the website they call Eye Candy - a place where you can create inspiration boards with your favorite pieces on the site. It's kinda like Pinterest for a specific site. I highly recommend checking it out!

Minted.com is best known, however, for their Christmas cards - you can find those by clicking here.

Christmas in August, you ask? Well, of course! Why not shop early so that you are less stressed when Christmas rolls around? I'm not gonna lie, these cards are adorable!

Personally, I think they are a bit expensive. Yes, they use quality paper and inks, but are 100 Christmas cards worth over $163? I don't think I would pay that much - ever - for a Christmas card. But the designs are high quality and cute.

The website itself is extremely easy to navigate. This is perfect for someone who simply wants to make their purchase and move on to the next thing on their to-do list.

I also really love the Art Prints section of the site. This is where you can find photography, typography, and different pictures for room decor. For example:

The great thing about this section is that I'm looking for lots of pictures to hang in the million picture frames I have hanging around my room (which are currently empty). These will definitely do the trick!

Need party decor? They've got that too!

Or how about some cute stationary for your business?

This place literally has everything! If you're engaged, they have some adorable wedding invitations too. I recommend taking a look around and seeing what Minted.com has to offer.

One last thing - the DIY section of their blog is awesome. I love that you can find how to make things like paper flowers or confetti poppers!

I was compensated with a $100 gift card to Minted.com for this review, but all thoughts and opinions are my own. This is a honest review with genuine feedback. All pictures were taken from Minted.com.

Product Review: Way Better Snacks

Who doesn't enjoy snacking on chips and salsa?

Chips & salsa reminds me of a dance party I recently went to at my friend's house. I went early to help him set up, and one of the snacks were was chips & salsa. I was charged with the task of keeping his dogs away from all the food. I'm not sure why this stuck out to me - possibly because I don't eat much of either item. Regardless, there is something about the snack that is comforting and makes me want Mexican food.

I recently stumbled upon a great new snack: sprouted chips. I'll admit I was a little nervous at first, because the word "sprouted" makes me think of raw foods, of which I'm not the biggest fan. Don't get me wrong, I love me some baby carrots with ranch or cauliflower florets with hummus, but sprouts are not my thing.

When asked to try Way Better Snacks new line of sprouted chips, I was excited but unsure. When they arrived on my doorstep, I changed my mind: I was ready to dive into the six huge bags of crunchy goodness!

There are six flavors: Simply Sweet Potato, Simply Sunny Multi-Grain, Simply Unbeatable Blues (blue corn with salt), Simply Beyond Black Bean, No Salt Naked Blues (blue corn), and Simply So Sweet Chili.

Right away, I knew my favorite would be the Simply So Sweet Chili.

Sweet, spicy and a bundle of crunchy goodness, these chips are yummy. I love the unexpected spice that sneaks up on you.

The favorite among my roommates was the Simply Sweet Potato.

These had just a hint of sweet potato flavor and wasn't too overwhelming.

Way Better Snacks are Certified Gluten Free, Non-GMO, Certified 100% Whole Grain, Kosher, Vegan, an excellent Source of Whole Grains, Low Sodium, and a Good Source of Fiber. Also, they contain no trans fats, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

They are the first of its kind to use sprouted ingredients like flaxseed, chia seeds, quinoa, black beans, broccoli seeds and daikon radish seed. Weird, right? But yummy!

There wasn't a flavor that my roommates and I simply didn't like. I think the least favorite were the Simply Beyond Black Bean because they tasted... well... like black beans, and that was unusual. But they were still good!

So, the next time you want nachos, give these chips a try. Yum.

Product Review: Banana & Pear Cho

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love Chobani.

Funny story: I used to hate yogurt. Of pretty much any kind. Especially Greek yogurt. When I did eat yogurt, I would buy the bad-for-you  kind by Yoplait with high fructose corn syrup and other gross things. Not to say I've been eating incredibly healthfully recently (I haven't been), but now that I've tasted Chobani, that's pretty much all I buy.

I have to give Chobani props. They are the brand that first made me enjoy Greek yogurt!

On that note - Cho has two new flavors - which they sent me to review (aren't they the best?): Banana and Pear. I received 6 of each flavor, as well as this nifty spoon with a cup of Cho engraved on the handle and "#tastereal" on the back. It was super high quality spoon too, made form heavy metal. Coolest. Spoon. Ever.

Much like other Cho flavors, these weren't incredibly strong in taste. The pear was the strongest, and thus my favorite - crisp and sweet, with a strong pear flavor and crunchy pear pieces. The banana, which I expected to taste like banana pudding, was very subtle. If I hadn't known this was banana, I would have guessed it was plain or possibly vanilla. Nevertheless, it was good.

My only criticism lies with the pear yogurt. The first one I tried was perfectly thick and creamy, but the rest were watered down and tasted like they expired (my roommate questioned if they had expired, when in fact, they hadn't). It just did not look appetizing and ended up being thrown away. I'm not sure what to attribute this too, other than pears are a naturally pretty juicy fruit, but I don't think that's the reason for this Cho turning out the way it did.

Banana, however, was consistently thick and creamy with pieces of real banana. It was a win all across the board.

I would highly recommend digging through Pinterest for a banana bread recipe that uses Greek yogurt or sour cream (there are a million) and trying it with this banana Cho instead. I think it would work really well!

Cho has really been on a creative kick recently, coming out with a bunch of new flavors. Check out their new products here. Have you seen Chobani Bites? Those little, 100-calorie, 4 pack yogurts in fun flavors like Caramel with Pineapple, Raspberry with Chocolate Chips, Fig with Orange Zest and Coffee with Dark Chocolate? Those look incredibly divine.

There is also Chobani Flips, which I haven't actually seen in stores yet. These, by far, look the best to me. Especially the Key Lime flavor - it starts with a base of key lime yogurt, and you "flip" part of the package to mix in graham cracker and white chocolate pieces. Sounds yummy, right?!

Aside from the rather watery pear yogurt, I am still impressed with the quality products that Cho always puts out. Thanks, Cho, for another great experience.

What do you think about Cho's new products? What do you want to try the most?

Product Review & Giveaway: Stonewall Kitchen

How about some pancakes?
No?
What if I told you they were gingerbread pancakes?
I thought so.

I was recently contacted by Stonewall Kitchen, asking if I would be interested in reviewing any of their holiday baking mixes. Of course, my answer was yes. How can you say no to something as delicious as gingerbread pancakes?!

I've always been a big fan of Stonewall Kitchen's products. They have so much to offer - jams, jellies, cookie and brownie mixes, and so much more that I can't begin to describe. You'll just have to head over to their website and check it out for yourself!

But back to the topic at hand - gingerbread pancakes. Holy moley, was I excited when this arrived on my doorstep:

Gingerbread pancake mix and gingerbread syrup!!! Yum!!

I opened the mix and got cooking right away.

Just mix it up and throw in some chocolate chips for an added bonus...

Ta-da! You have gingerbread pancakes!

Let me tell you - these were awesome. They tasted just like biting into a freshly made gingerbread cookie with pieces of crystallized ginger in it (no - that wasn't in the pancake mix, but it tasted like it!). They were spicy and wonderful. The gingerbread syrup was the perfect companion for these pancakes, and provided just the right amount of added ginger flavor. The syrup was extremely thick and gooey, which made it fun to pour on top of the pancakes.

Now, let me ask you a question - would you like to win the same thing I received from Stonewall Kitchen? The prize I am shipping out to one lucky winner looks like this:

Who doesn't want to win that? I mean, come on! You even win a free spatula! I didn't get one of those. I'm completely jealous of whoever wins this little beauty.

Here's how to enter (leave a comment for each entry):

Pin this contest on Pinterest (mention "PassingDaisies.net" in the comments section) & like Stonewall Kitchen on Facebook (MANDATORY)

Bonus entries:

1. Follow Passing Daisies on Google Friend Connect/Blogger
2. Subscribe to Passing Daisies on email
3. Email me if you are interested in being a guest blogger on Passing Daisies with a potential topic and link to your current blog (please make sure you can write a quality guest blog. I am willing to guest blog for others as well!)

That's all she wrote, folks. Contest ends on DECEMBER 25 (Merry Christmas!) at 5PM EST. Winner will be announced and contacted shortly after.

Product Review: Seeds 4 Peace

Hey guys!

I apologize for my rather depressing post a few days ago. I'm all better now - we're both really happy with our decision to break up and we are staying good friends. In fact, we are even getting Yagoot (frozen yogurt) on Sunday. I call that pretty good, right?

Other news - I'm in love with my internship. I know I mentioned that before, but seriously - I love it, and I would be ecstatic if it turned into a job after I graduate. Which - isn't that scary? The thought of college graduation? These four years have flown by. I had no idea they would go so quickly! What the heck am I going to do after I graduate!? Scary.

Fun things I did this week:

Wine & movie night with the roomies. I <3 Bradley Cooper!

Made hot chocolate peanut butter pancakes with my bestie, Blake

Made peach & plum crumble

Ate free cupcakes at work

Enjoyed the view in Downtown Cincinnati where I work

Clearly, it's been a fun week. And did I mention that Tess and I (the other intern at work) are going to an Ingrid Michaelson concert. How cool is that?! I'm so excited!

Alright, I have another product review for you guys. This is the last one for a while, promise!

Let's talk about Seeds 4 Peace. I met this company while in Washington D.C. at the Fancy Food Show with my last internship, and I loved their product. The company was really friendly, and they sent me some samples of their product. It's a brand spanking new company, and they got rave reviews about their product at the food show. Pretty neat, hm? THey sent me three tubes of each of their flavors - 3 each of the sunflower seeds, and 3 each of the pumpkin seeds. Here are the flavors:

Sunflower Seeds
Sea Salt & Black Pepper
Chile Lime
Habanero BBQ

Pumpkin Seeds
Honey Mustard
Wasabi Soy
Cinnamon and Sugar

Honestly, I loved all of the flavors, but my favorites were the honey mustard pumpkin seeds and the chili lime sunflower seeds. Both are only 180 calories for the entire tube, which I think is pretty good for seeds.

I also really like that the tubes make the seeds easily portable. I throw them in my backpack and eat them in the middle of class when I need a snack and have been in class all day. My classmates always comment on how cute the package design is, which I totally agree. The package design is super fun! I highly recommend this company - since they are new, give them some love and order some for yourself!

Okay friends, I have to get up early for work tomorrow and I still need to shower, so I'm off. I love you all. See you soon! <3

Much love,

Ice Cream Extravaganza!

Everyone,

My apologies for being so stupid/delayed this month with updating the blog. It's been a long and rough past three weeks. I'll quickly give you the quick updates before I dive into reviewing three brands of ice cream (yum):

1. I broke up with my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years. Honestly, I'm glad it's over. I did this because I think it will be the right choice in the long run, for both of us. God has a better plan for me. God has someone better for me. And I can't wait to meet him!
2. I started my internship at Cincinnati Magazine this week - and so far, I love it! My first day was another employee's last day, so we all went out for lunch at some fancy taco place in downtown Cincinnati called Bakersfield - this cute, cowboy bar and restaurant where they serve beer in cowboy boots and margaritas in mason jars - and this local ice cream shop called Hello, Honey. So yummy. I had two tacos at lunch, and a scoop of Maple Walnut Brittle ice cream - talk about delicious. My co-workers are nice, the other intern who works with me from the University of Cincinnati is nice, and fact checking isn't so bad, once I get over my nerves of calling people. I think it'll be a good semester, and hopefully it will turn into something more permanent after I graduate.
3. I started working out again, finally. Since school has been back in swing, I've been really overeating and not exercising, which needs to change. So today I worked out on the elliptical for a half hour and was sweating pretty hard :) It felt nice.

Those are probably the only exciting things that happened this week, besides the usual publishing of the Newswire and weekly roomie bonding crafts (this week we painted cardboard letters of our initials).

How is everyone doing?

Let's review some ice creams, shall we? Thanks to the companies below for sending me either coupons for free product, or sending me large boxes of ice cream. I loved them all, no matter how they made it into my hands.

Ciao Bella

This is quite possibly my new all time favorite ice cream. There are so many flavors to pick from! More specifically, Ciao Bella makes pints of rich, creamy gelato - high in calories, but worth the splurge. I ran into this company at the Fancy Food Show in Washington DC and spoke with them about reviewing their gelato, and who knew? We were able to work together!

I tried the following products:

Belgian Chocolate Smores Gelato
Malted Milk Ball Gelato
Key Lime Gelato Squares
Raspberry Adonia Greek Yogurt
Wile Blueberry Adonia Greek Yogurt

The frozen Greek yogurt line - Adonia - is new, and pretty delicious. I think it comes in at 130 calories per half cup, which is pretty nice in the world of ice cream calories. Both flavors were yummy and creamy. I enjoyed them. Then again, I always love frozen yogurt, but I think I prefer my fro-yo to be something other than fruit flavors. This would be a good idea for an expansion of this line - chocolate, perhaps? Key lime?

As for gelatos - wow, they were wonderful. So rich and creamy, and key lime anything is a win with me, so I loved the gelato squares (although they are pretty caloric at around 320 calories per small bar). The Begian Chocolate Smores was my favorite flavor, and the Malted Milk Ball was unusually yummy - the gelato itself was malt flavor, with pieces of malted milk ball in the gelato. Really good. I love this company because of their huge selection of unusal flavors, and everything I've tried has always been delicious. Highly recommend this company! Ciao!

Oikos Frozen Greek Yogurt

This company caught my eye while shopping in Kroger (a local grocery store) one day. I picked up the chocolate to look at the calorie damage, and - would you believe it - only 100 calories in a half cup! Woah. Needless to say, I emailed this company right away about reviewing their products, and was happy when they sent me coupons to try their yogurt free!

I tried two flavors: honey & chocolate.

Here is what the honey fro-yo looks like:

The honey flavor was absolutely AMAZING. It had really rich swirls of honey throughout the fro-yo. So good. I liked the honey flavor - this was really unusual, and something I don't normally see as a staple ice cream flavor. I'm excited I got to try it. I highly recommend it.

I was a little disappointed by the chocolate variety.

It was a little too ice for me, and not creamy enough. I probably wouldn't get the chocolate flavor again, but I would get any of the other flavors in the Oikos line. Stonyfield also make a great regular frozen yogurt, not part of the Oikos line, called After Dark. That is a dark chocolate fro-yo, and I love it - rich and creamy. It's greek counterpart, however, just doesn't win me over.

Overall, if you are looking for some good, low calorie ice cream, the Oikos line is great to try. Check out their other fruity flavors, including Peach Mango and Blueberry, for more yummy eats.

Arctic Zero

Last but not least is Arctic Zero. I was really excited to try this company's products because you can eat an entire pint from 150 calories - shocking, I know - and their bars are only 85 calories a bar. I was floored and definitely had to try them!

Arctic Zero sent me a huge package of everything in their line. Crazy, right?

They have eight pint flavors: Vanilla Maple, Pumpkin Spice, Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies and Cream, Strawberry, and Coffee. There are also four types of bars: chocolate, vanilla, orange, and strawberry.

By far, my favorite items were the chocolate dipped bars. These were so good and were gone almost immediately. I highly recommend the orange variety.

As for the pints - they were decent, but I can't say that I was in love with them. If you want ice cream but not all the calories, this is a great substitute. I really liked the Mint Chocolate, and all the flavors were good, but it's not something I would rave about. Like I said, good as an ice cream substitute for those dieting. However, the bars are totally worth your money. Love them. Next time you see Arctic Zero at your local grocery, give them a try for a new experience!

Well, friends - I'm off. Still recovering from the breakup, which isn't fun, and I'm raw. Hurting. I need to stop being sad and sitting in my room all day and actually go do something for once.

See you later!
