The 2013 Gift Guide For....[THE MUSIC JUNKIE]

Welcome to the next installation of the Passing Daisies 2013 Holiday Gift Guide!

Today, we are focusing on the music lovers in our lives. We've already talked about HIPSTERS and VEGANS, so make sure to check out those gift guides, too! Here's a look at other upcoming gift guides:

[The GEEK]
[The BOOK NERD]
[The VINTAGE]
[The TRAVELER]
[The DRINK SNOB]
[The DIY ENTHUSIAST]
[The BLOGGER]

So, music lovers. These are the people who know about pretty much every band and up-an-coming artist there is. You've probably never heard of them, but your friend definitely has and thinks they make great music. Your friend probably plays an instrument (or two), but if they don't, they want to learn. Keep reading for some unique gift ideas for those music junkies you know and love!

Spotify is way, WAY better than Pandora or iTunes Radio, and your friend probably knows that. A subscription to Spotify premium is $9.99 a month, so why not buy your friend a few months worth of advertisement free music? They can play their favorite songs on all their devices (iPhone, iPad, computer, etc.), and they can listen to entire albums for free.

This band is definitely NOT well known, but their music super catchy. It sounds retro and has a vintage feel, much like the artists themselves, Trent Dubbs and Amy Stroup.

Another indie rock band that's not too well known, Deas Vail has a GREAT sound. They have a great mix of acoustic and hard rock. Very catchy. While you're at it, check out the lead singer's solo stuff, Wesley Blaylock. "Falling Into You" is one of my all time favorite songs.

Go Local

All music lovers want to keep up with the local music scene, and probably enjoy attending local music concerts where they can discover new artists. Look up some bands from your area and buy your friend some local tunes. For Cincinnati, some local bands include Walk the Moon, Foxy Shazam, Archer's Paradox, Mia Carruthers & The Retros, and The Harlequins.

If your friend doesn't like getting rid of tickets from concerts, why not buy them a book where they can store them all?

A little bit hipster, a little bit music junkie. The best of both worlds!

Play those old fashioned records in a stylish new turntable! Any music guru will tell you how much better records sound than CDs.

Etsy has a bunch of cute, homemade lyric art, or you can shop local stores to support your local artists!

Why not get an awesome, hand stamped guitar pick? You can search Etsy and find a pick that says virtually everything, or special order a pick to say whatever you want.

I hope this gift guide has sparked some ideas for the music fanatics in your life! If not, hopefully I introduced you to some great new bands. Check out Deas Vail! Really, please check them out. I love that band!

The 2013 Gift Guide for.....[THE HIPSTER]

Welcome to your one stop shop for EVERYTHING gift related.

Up until Christmas, I'm going to be posting various gift guides for those hard to shop for people in your life. Below is the list I've come up with....look for gift guides coming soon!

[The HIPSTER]
[The VEGAN]
[The MUSIC JUNKIE]
[The GEEK]
[The BOOK NERD]
[The VINTAGE]
[The TRAVELER]
[The DRINK SNOB]
[The DIY ENTHUSIAST]
[The BLOGGER]

Now let's get on with the fun! First up.... the hipster. Something I have unofficially dubbed myself :). I'm not quite as hipster as some, but I definitely like the style. Flannel, Ray-Ban glasses, skinny jeans, and a pair of TOMS. Maybe a sock hat or a beanie. I think it's comfy, casual, and extremely attractive on men. I'll take a hipster over a preppy kid any day of the week.

Anyways, on to the gift guide!

Liz Carver is an amazing graphic designer and typographer. I highly recommend checking out everything in her Etsy store - you'll probably find a million things you love!

Perfect for keeping snack bags closed. What a hoot.

Mustard is a wonderful color, and who could hate an adorable bunny with glasses?

I absolutely adore Zooey Deschanel. Her band is classified as indie rock, and we all know that's the hipster's favorite genre of music. She's amazing - check them out!

Because who doesn't love making your own fermented tea?!

I know you want a pair of "Spocks." Your favorite Star Trek Vulcan, in sock form!

Bowties

And suspenders, too. Both are crazy attractive on guys!

So, hipster, you drink brewed chocolate beans instead of coffee beans. And it's delicious, too.

Anchors are cool, and so are ties. Why not put them both together?

Every hipster should own one of these hats. I think it's mandatory, actually...

To me, a scarf is a scarf. What exactly makes it a "man's" scarf? Either way, it looks warm and cozy!

I personally LOVE ear cuffs. And this octopus is cute!

This book gives you a billion ideas of creative ways to use mason jars. Love it!

Superheros rock. Superhero themed food is even better.

Why grow flowers in a garden when you can grow them in a can instead?

Well, there you have it! I hope you found some gift inspiration for your hipster friends. If not, hopefully this list sparked some ideas on what you can get your friend.

Peace, love, and skinny ties,

Let's Play Catch Up (and BIG news!)

Hi friends! Sorry I've been so absent in the blogging world recently. I've had a lot going on and not much time to blog.

And by a lot going on, I mean a lot going on. Let me give you the low-down on what's happened in the past month or two.

Crossroads Internship - I may (or may not) have mentioned this already, but I've been interning at Crossroads Church for about a month now. I absolutely love it. What a great place to work! I am blessed to work there. I've really had to push myself to do some things - like write a song for Kids' Club. I was ready to give up on writing the music, but I pushed through and came up with something. And I like it.

CRUX - I bet none of you knows what CRUX is! And that's okay. CRUX is a discipleship training program that Crossroads has on Thursday nights. Basically, a bunch of 18-35 year olds gather together every week to learn about how to disciple others and make discipleship (training others to be Christ-like) the focus of their life. I love the people here like family, and I've really grown a LOT in faith since joining back in March (ish). People have really pushed me, and I've pushed myself. I'm being discipled by a girl I love and admire, reunited with people from college, and am discipling someone myself. Awesome. See the video below to learn exactly what CRUX is!

Nannying - I'm now a nanny twice a week to two boys in Anderson and once a week to two boys in Madeira. I have to say, I really enjoy it. I think I'm going to pursue a full time nannying job in September once my internship has ended, if Crossroads doesn't offer me a job. It's fun and I love it. Plus, it allows me to be crazy creative. We made fossil cookies the other day. How awesome!

Making fossil cookies with the boys I nanny!
Room Redecorating - I'm really into the whole Pinterest/Etsy/hipster/vintage "style" of decor and clothing recently, so I'm slowing creating and redecorating my room to match that style. It's going well, just very, very slowly due the large amount of other things I have going on.

Car Troubles - Yeah... my car broke down this morning. The left control arm snapped in half, allowing me the wonderful opportunity to have my car towed. Great. So... there's that.

New Orleans Mission Trip - That's right! My missions trip to New Orleans is coming up from July 20-28. I'm stoked! I'm leading a group of volunteers, plus another group of vacation Bible camp volunteers. I'm also in charge of leading all the classroom presentations for the K-2 age group at vacation Bible camp. AHHHH I'm nervous but I cannot wait!!! It's gonna be so great! I miss New Orleans.

And FINALLY... what I believe to be some of the most exciting news yet. I'm opening a new blog. Coming soon... Anchored in Hope! A blog about faith in every day life. I've had a lot of God-related stuff I've wanted to blog about recently, and I think this is a great option - especially since I'm a social media intern for a church! I plan on having a staff of guest writers for this blog, so if you're interested, let me know!

That was a lot of spewing information. I have a lot of product reviews coming up soon, since I'm super behind in them. Yikes. Sorry to the companies who have sent me product!

Love you all. Talk to you soon, I PROMISE!
