Product Review: Journey Bar

Remember this Journey Bar review I posted a while ago?

I was recently contacted by Journey Bars, savory protein bars made with an organic whole grain blend of oats, millet, flax, amaranth and buckwheat, to try their newest flavors.

Here's the bad news - the pictures I took of these bars were on my old iPhone, which shattered and had to be replaced. So, unfortunately, I don't have self-taken pictures of the bars. However, here is a picture of the flavors from their website:

Ironically, what I think are two of the best flavors (Hickory BBQ and Parmesan Romano) were replaced by two new savory flavors: Sesame Ginger and Sea Salt. These two new flavors, although unique, were not as delicious as I remember the others. I think just the idea of an Asian protein bar threw me off. It was good but weird. The Sea Salt, on the other hand, was a bit plain and lacking in the flavor department.

My favorite flavor is still the Coconut Curry - deliciously curry and deliciously Indian!

I still love the concept of Journey Bars - a savory protein bar in a world of mostly sweet protein bars. They really do have some great and unique protein bar flavors (the full line includes Coconut Curry, Sea Salt, Sesame Ginger, Rosemary, and Pizza Marinara), and I recommend you try them out. Just be prepared for something that is definitely a unique experience!

Times for updates on life. Have I been working out? Nope, definitely not. So far I have actually read everything I'm supposed to have read (shocker - I'm usually on Sparknotes by now), I've had a beer at Currito while listening to a live band on the greenspace at school, made a modified version of this banana bread (yum!), slept a lot, ate a lot, published the student newspaper, and watched The Hunger Games with the boyfriend (Stuart). Overall, a pretty good week - especially since my Cincinnati Magazine internship hasn't started yet, so I have nothing to do on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Awesome, right? I also made a bucket list of things to accomplish in my final year of college.

I will be auditioning for Hairspray the musical at school next week! Pretty excited. I'm interested to see what part I get!

Okay. Again, I am crazy behind on product reviews. When is this new to anyone?! Let's learn about Journey Bars today!

Journey Bars are my new favorite protein bars. Let's be real - all protein bars on the market are sweet! Right? What if you want something savory?

Well then, you're in luck, because Journey Bars are a line of all savory protein & nutrition bars. They have five awesome flavors: Pizza Marinara, Coconut Curry, Hickory Barbecue, Rosemary, and Parmesan Romano.

All of the bars are made with an organic whole grain blend of oats, millet, flax, amaranth and buckwheat. That's a crazy amount of goodness! Texture-wise, they all sort of remind me of cornbread. I loved them. My all-time favorite was the Coconut Curry flavor!

Curry flavored anything is automatically a win in my book. This tasted like curry cornbread. It was amazing and I loved every single moment of it. I wish I had another one to chow down on!

The other great thing about these bars are that they taste exactly like the flavors. Pizza Marinara tasted just like a pizza, the curry tasted like curry, and so on. My least favorite was the Hickory Barbecue, but that's only because I have to be in the mood for bbq to begin with. These are also soy-free and GMO-free. Seriously the greatest bars ever. Search for them in your local natural foods market and try them for yourself!

Much love,

Product Review/Giveaway: EcoTrek Fitness Whole Food Bars

I love trying new protein bars.

I love how far they have come. They used to be chalky and disgusting; now, there are so many options, many of which taste great and are relatively good for you!

When Cari from EcoTrek Fitness contacted me about reviewing her whole food bars, I was really excited. Give me anything with chocolate and I promise you I will try it.

Cari sent me a box of each of her flavors to try: Chocolate Raspberry and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Each bar has 6 servings of fruits and vegetables (crazy!) and 10 grams of protein. My only complaint is that they also have 14 grams of sugar, which is the equivalent of a candy bar, but as long as you watch your daily sugar intake you should be fine. These bars are a healthy indulgence and a much better alternative to candy bars!

First up: Chocolate Peanut Butter. These were pretty delicious. I honestly am always skeptical about trying new protein bars because I'm scared they will taste like chalk, but these tasted like a candy bar. A much healthier alternative to Reese Cups. Chewy, chocolatey, and fudgey with some crunch.

Next: Chocolate Raspberry. These were by far my favorite! I love the combination of chocolate and fruit, especially dark chocolate and raspberries. This reminds me of the Chocolate Raspberry Lunabar, although I couldn't tell you which was better unless I compared them side by side. This has a strong raspberry flavor that I cannot get enough of. I could devour the entire box in minutes. Seriously. I could.

So, aside from the bars' high sugar content, these are great.
